The Road 04:46
This road's laid out for us So don't stray too far As we've no compass or guide We can only navigate by the stars But where you lead I will follow We'll go where the wind blows Like faithful friends we have known That have taken other roads At some point we may lose our way home And if that time does come I pray I'm not alone 'cause I can picture you in my mind But like a silent movie the sound's now lost to time And as the tape ages I find The picture is degrading To history you're consigned I fear that I must tread this path alone A wandering soul in the darkness seeking out it's home Will you walk with me? Will you walk with me? The ivy encroaches on the stone Through the cracks in the road The weeds have sprouted up and grown Though it's not where we're bound They say all roads lead to Rome All those we've left behind The wrong turns we've made I won't regret the path I've taken Or the tolls I've paid 'cause you walked for a time on this very same road Our paths diverge for now So until the next crossroads At some point we may lose our way home And if that time does come I pray I'm not alone 'cause I can picture you in my mind But like a silent movie the sound's now lost to time And as the tape ages I find The picture is degrading To history you're consigned I fear that I must tread this path alone A wandering soul in the darkness seeking out it's home Will you walk with me? Will you walk with me? Will you walk with me? Will you walk with me?

Our Secrets, our truth They are our own And we just sway in the wind You question with your gaze You observe us You observe us We know our place While you wander through the Earth searching for yours What it is to be connected and rooted to the earth How you stare at what you cannot truly comprehend We see you looking So fleetingly So fleetingly So fleetingly You’re free to go You’re not free to move Let the wind guide your endeavours We ride the breeze We feel it’s grace Rooted in one place Acorn to oak The pace of change is slow When you live fast things pass you by You ask what is our worth Then destroy us We knew our place While you blundered through the Earth forsaking yours What is to feel connected, a memory now lost Why must your price what you do not truly comprehend We see you living So fleetingly So fleetingly So fleetingly You’re free to go You’re not free to move Let the wind guide your endeavours We ride the breeze We feel it’s grace You’re free to go You’re not free to move Let the wind guide your endeavours We ride the breeze We feel it’s grace Just rooted in one place Just rooted in one place Just rooted in one place Just rooted in one place

An Englishman’s home is his castle It’s where we weather life’s storms When the enemy is at the gates You’re inside all safe and warm And as the lights go out in town It’s clear that you know your place This is more than just bricks and mortar It’s your very own personal space Our lives, our hopes are no concern And we’re just pawns in the game Checkmate (Our home) Affordable housing- that’s got to be a joke (Our home) How can I save when I’m so very broke We pay through the nose for the houses they own ‘Cause live here we must But it can never be home I’ve heard people say “home is where the heart is” Well they broke my heart when they took mine away Nasty surprise- that eviction notice As it came with the junk mail delivered that day And as the lights went out in town I felt the blood drain from my face Our little fortress came tumbling down Tonight the ghosts of our past will wander this place Our lives, our hopes are no concern And we’re just pawns in the game Checkmate (Our home) Affordable housing- that’s got to be a joke (Our home) How can I save when I’m so very broke We pay through the nose for a house we don’t own ‘Cause live here we must But it can never be home So you wanna move house And build your own castle You’ve counted the pennies And worked ’til you’re floored All you’ll need is an extra decade A secure second job And another guarantor Our lives, our hopes are no concern And we’re just pawns in the game Checkmate (Our home) Affordable housing- that’s got to be a joke (Our home) How can I save when I’m so very broke We pay through the nose for a house we don’t own ‘Cause live here we must But it can never be home I know I have no say But please don’t take my home away

The Storm 03:04
Look around you Feel the storm As it takes hold The tide is rising You lash out You lose control (Standing all alone) ‘Cause nothing feels the same (I can feel the storm come) Embrace the heat (Nowhere left to go) Fan the flame (Walking on my own Wind wraps all around) So look around you (Like a vice it holds me) You forget yourself (I won’t turn around) Now feel the shame) (The rain is coming down) (‘Cause) But This is not the way no This is not the way We will do Things here Anymore This is not the way no The is not the way We will be Around here Anymore So look around you As the storm gently subsides Survey the wreckage And count the cost To your shattered pride (‘Sky is turning grey) ‘Cause nothing feels the same (Metaphor of my mind) Nothing feels the same (I won’t turn away) To you (There’s nothing more to say) So think hard (Pressures really on) Because when you’ve lost it all well (Air so thick it chokes me) (I can’t see the end) What will you do? (Better carry on ‘cause) This is not the way no This is not the way We will do Things here Anymore This is not the way no The is not the way We will be Around here Anymore This is not the way no This is not the way We will do Things here Anymore This is not the way no The is not the way We will be Around here Anymore

Horizon 04:45
I trace the lines on the map One inch to a mile The folds in the page Lead out to the sea And if time would allow I'd answer when it called If work could cease And let me be But these ropes they bind me Walls confine me I hold out my hand and reach out Seek out the distant horizon That's where I wanna go If you'll meet me there As the time slips away The summer's almost gone I'll wait for that moment And I hope I won't wait long And if chance would allow I'd wander through the trees Hope my path remains clear Nothing to waylay me But these ropes they bind me Walls confine me I hold out my hand and reach out Seek out the distant horizon That's where I wanna go If you'll meet me there Look there- Where the path meets the light of the setting sun That's where I'm heading for Look for me there If I only get one life And time won't stand still I'll make a vow And hope you'll still be there with me So as I reach out my hand To the ever moving goal I will walk this spinning globe 'cause it's where I want to go 'cause these ropes won't bind me Won't confine me I'll hold out my hands and reach out Seek out the distant horizon That's where I'm gonna go Will you meet me there? Look there- Where our path meets the light of the setting sun That's where I'm heading for You'll find me there

about

Five years after the release of our first EP 'Here's Something,' we present 'On The Verge,' an EP inspired by journeys through the world and journeys through our own lives, roads and paths, and the natural world.

For this EP we expanded our sound to include our longtime friend and collaborator Dominic Mackie on Banjo, Mandolin and Guitar, whilst keeping the core of Tenor Guitar, Bass and harmony vocals with the bass drum and percussion that have become a part of our live performances over the past couple of years.

This music feels very rooted in the paths, roads and trackways around Long Melford, Suffolk- in fact some of the songs were part written on them, and so to reflect this the songs have been recorded onto soundscapes that were recorded at these locations, at different times of the year.
